Unclaimed property includes intangible assets (cash, stocks, or bonds) that a company or other entity is holding that belongs to you that have become abandoned. It includes bank accounts, stocks and dividends, wages, refunds, insurance payments, gift certificates, credit balances and overpayments, just to name a few. Each state has an unclaimed property (escheat) law and all companies must comply with this law or face penalties for non-compliance. The letter you received is required by state law as an attempt to notify the potential owner before property is sent to the state. If the response deadline in your letter has passed, we cannot help you, however you can claim your funds directly from the state noted in your letter.
